MEASURING THE VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF THE WORK ABILITY-PERSONAL RADAR QUESTIONNAIRE USING MALAY LANGUAGE VERSION
Abstract
The rising number of older workers in the global workforce has become a new
challenge while at the same time triggering anxiety among employers with the
question “how well will the workers in the near future perform concerning work
demand, health and mental resources?”. Previous studies have shown the influence of
age in the late phases of an individual’s work and conflict between ageing workers
and the workplace. While age may not be considered a constraint in performing job
task in most jobs, it is contrary when it comes to firefighting. The ageing process may
indirectly increase the prevalence of work-limiting disabilities and affect work
capacity and performance especially in a physically demanding job like firefighters.
Thus, measuring their workability is pivotal. In this study, the Work Ability-Personal
Radar (WA-PR) instrument adopted using a newly revised and modified Malay
language version to assess the workability among Malaysian firefighters. As such, this
paper aimed at examining the validity and reliability of WA-PR as an instrument using
the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Cronbach’s Alpha. Results from the study
of WA-PR in Malay version, which have been translated and tested known as
Keupayaan Kerja-Radar Peribadi (KK-RP), suggests that it can be employed and has
paved the way for future studies on workability in the Malaysian context. The WA-PR
instruments validated among the respondents. KK-RP showed an adequate
psychometric property, making it suitable to be employed in investigating the
workability level in the Malaysian context. The finding significantly can be applied in
public and private sectors in Malaysia to investigate work ability among employees at
the workplace.

A BUILDING MEASUREMENT MODEL OF POLITICAL CONNECTION
Abstract
This study aims to perfect developed political connection measurements with
ratios which according to researchers still have limitations because they do not
consider the weight or quality of politicians who are considered to have a
relationship with directors or commissioners. The purpose of this study is to try
to find a more precise and rational political connection measurement by
considering several things or elements. The aims to build an appropriate model
or formula to measure political connections in addition to dummy and ratios that
have been proposed and used by previous researchers. This research is a
literature study that uses various written sources that are relevant to the
measurement of political connections by considering the elements of power. This
study proposes seven elements as factors that influence power for each
politician, namely: Position in DPR/DPD and MPR, Ranking of Seat Obtained,
Position of Politician in Central Government, Position in Political Parties,
Background of Politicians, Experience in Political Organizations and Politicians
Education. The results of this study propose an index of political connections
(IPC) as a more rational political connection measurement because it considers
several elements as factors that influence the power of each politician. This
research is expected to be a reference for further studies specifically related to
political connections. With this research the researcher wants to propose a more
rational and realistic political connection by looking at the political system in
Indonesia. Practical Implications This research is also expected to be a reference
for business practitioners, especially the shareholders, directors and
commissioners of companies who have considered political connections as one
of the factors that can support the company's survival through political
approaches.

AN ASSESSEMENT OF THE IMPACT OF MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (MDGs) ON POVERTY REDUCTION IN GOMBE STATE
Abstract
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) initiative by United Nations (UN) is one
of the efforts aimed at reducing poverty globally by the year 2015. Poverty has been a
serious challenge to government, particularly in Nigeria even before the declaration
of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the World leaders in 2000 at New York.
The purpose of this research is to assess the Impact of Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs) on poverty reduction in Gombe State. The research used secondary sources
of data for analysis and findings. Stakeholders that are relevant to the subject matter
of study are consulted from different categories for in-depth interview. The data
obtained were presented empirically and analyzed. The work discovered that there
were series of efforts in terms of programmes and policies to eradicate poverty in the
country, particularly in Gombe State, especially from 2001 to date but, they failed to
achieve their targets that explains why Nigeria is finding it difficult to extricate itself
from phenomenon of poverty and achieve the target of MDGs by 2015 and 2020. The
study recommend among others that, the policy designers should integrate the locals
or the beneficiaries in the process of designing the Programme so as to enable for the
contribution of the selected target with their inputs on how to go about the Programme
in future. This will help in warding up suspicion and negative perception of a hidden
agenda in the local community and it will also enable for the beneficiaries to build
their own capacity in their own indigenous way instead of the universal approach
which may not work in our local communities.
