LOCAL COMMUNITIES’ PERCEPTIONS OF ECOTOURISM ECONOMIC IMPACTS AND CONSERVATION ISSUES IN KUALA SELANGOR, MALAYSIA (PAPER 79)

Ecotourism is considered as an instrument towards sustainable development in which rural communities benefit. However, the environmental impacts of tourism and the unfair distribution of economic development might challenge the ecotourism advocates narratives. This study aimed to analyze perceptions of ecotourism in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. A quantitative method was used with a strata sampling of the local communities in Kuala Selangor. The results showed a large support of ecotourism development and a more contrasted views on the economic impact distribution onto the local communities. It enable the ecotourism sector in Kuala Selangor to be improved and implement clearer pathway for future development.
